The closest town is Nuevo Arenal is a town and district in the canton of Tilarán, Guanacaste province, Costa Rica. It is located on the northern shore of Lake Arenal—the largest lake in Costa Rica, covering approximately 85 km². The town was created in the 1970s: when the dam that formed the lake was built, the old town of Arenal was submerged, and its inhabitants were relocated to what is now Nuevo Arenal. It sits at about 620 meters above sea level, with a pleasant cool/warm climate year-round. Approximately 2,685 people live there (2020 estimate). Nuevo Arenal is known for its stunning views of the lake, mountains, and, on clear days, the cone of the Arenal Volcano. The natural environment offers diversity: tropical forest, grasslands, lakes, and hills; many homeowners maintain gardens and lush tropical vegetation. Many people who move there appreciate its tranquility, nature, climate, mixed community (locals and foreigners), and quality of life.
